Myofascial Release Therapy
Myofascial Release Therapy focuses on fascia—a tough, flexible connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and organs. Think of it like a cling wrap layer that holds everything in place. When fascia becomes tight or restricted due to injury, poor posture, dehydration, or inactivity, it can cause pain, limit movement, and even pull your body out of alignment.
Fascial tension doesn’t just affect one area—it can create a ripple effect throughout the body. For example, a restriction in your foot might contribute to hip or neck pain. That’s because fascia is fully interconnected, from the surface of your skin down to your internal organs.

What Causes Fascial Restrictions?
Common causes include:
Injury or trauma to muscles or joints
Poor posture or repetitive strain, like sitting at a desk all day
Dehydration, which reduces the fascia’s ability to move freely (about 70% of your body’s water is stored in fascia)
Personalized Treatment Plans
Because fascial issues are complex and widespread, your Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) may recommend a series of treatments targeting different areas of the body. You may also receive simple home exercises to help maintain your results between sessions.

What to Expect from Myofascial Release
This therapy involves slow, sustained pressure using little or no lotion so the therapist can gently stretch and lengthen the fascia. The sensation is different from a traditional massage—more like a skin stretch than a glide. Many people find it deeply relaxing, and results are often felt after just one session.
Myofascial Release can:
Reduce chronic pain and stiffness
Improve mobility and range of motion
Correct posture and alignment issues
Break down scar tissue from injuries or surgery
Expertise You Can Trust
At Talbot Massage Therapy, several of our RMTs are specially trained in Myofascial Release. Whether you want a full myofascial session or would like to integrate it into your massage treatment, we can tailor it to your specific needs.
